About this app

MEMENTO MORI is the Stoic idea meaning "Remember death." Marcus Aurelius, Roman Emperor and philosopher, reflected on it to stay grounded and not lose track of meaningful things in the stress, troubles or celebrations of life. Steve Jobs, Apple founder, is known meditate on our mortality as well. But why?

It is famous for its practical way for life and resilient mental peace. In search of meaning and happiness, Stoic philosophy has guided people for ages. Its core idea is to make the best of what is in your control and not let anything outside control bother you, like opinions, weather, etc. It redefines happiness as internal exercise, that comes from balancing desires, thoughts, and actions. As Nassim Taleb says, “A Stoic is a Buddhist with attitude.”

Nice. Takes a while to get navigation down, but I appreciate all the different types of things to be found- quotes, a couple books, meditations, breathing exercises, journals with and without prompts, etc. I'm only using the free version for now. You can set it to notify (remind) you to do this or that at different times of the day or you can not use any notifications if that stuff annoys you. Nothing particularly new if you are already into stoicism, but still useful to keep practicing.

I like this app a lot, but there is a bug on "the shortness of life" by Seneca book in the app. The chapters I read don't update the fact I read them, so, it shows 0/4 pages on multiple chapters, which throws me off when I come back to read & get further. Maybe if there was a "complete" button that would help, but there remains only bookmark hearts.

The streaks are not calculated accurately, at all. The "books" are just 4 minds to choose from and it does not always keep track of which page you are on. The tasks page tends to jump around a lot. The daily quotes/stoic practices repeat frequently, even when they are hearted or responded to. I do enjoy being able to create tasks. I have enjoyed the breathing exercises as well.

Devin, appreciate your feedback bud 😊 We are releasing an optimized version by next Friday (Feb 23). In that, we will fix the books bug. Streaks are right, but maybe you mistook Memento Sessions (count of logins) as streaks. We will still check it. Quotes will be added in a later release. Feel free to tell us more at surrealwork@gmail.com ❤️
